Standard Dose, a New York experience for physical and mental well-being

The Standard Dose project

Standard Dose was founded by Anthony Saniger, who collaborated with SR Projects and Tuna Architecture to design a stylish store located in the city’s NoMAD neighbourhood. The shop offers natural products and it also includes spaces for daily yoga and meditation classes, educational workshops, and spa services to complement the products. The mission is to provide an experience for physical and mental well-being through natural curing practices. The architecture, the furniture and the painstaking care for details successfully accomplished the goal of making the setting natural, relaxing and well lit.

Essential to the design was the approach to the space’s proportions. As with many storefronts, the empty space was very narrow and tall. The designers used a central feature wall to anchor the space, visually connecting the entire store while also defining the separate product zone.

The meditation room

A hallmark feature of the storefront is the meditation studio where guided sessions can be booked. Equipped with large grey floor cushions, the space focused around an artificial skylight, our CoeLux 45HC.

The restorative environment is designed to reduce stress, heighten emotional wellbeing and enhance one’s cognitive functions.

The design mimics the "behaviour of the earth; atmosphere and is proven to support mental restorative processes, reduce stress, heighten a sense of comfort and emotional wellbeing, and enhance cognitive functions," according to Standard Dose.

“It really has to be seen to be believed” says Christopher Gardner of TUNA, a collaborator on the project.” For the meditation space, creating a sense of “place” was key, it needed to feel unlike any space a visitor might otherwise come across.”

CoeLux®, the protagonist of the lighting design of the space

Inside this context, a CoeLux HC 45 Sun&Moon system was installed in one of the rooms used for meditation practice, and it contributes towards creating a natural and reassuring atmosphere.

Natural lighting is a vital ingredient when creating comfortable settings, especially if the space is a windowless room or one that has no apertures towards the outside. CoeLux® systems, which are capable of recreating the natural experience of the sun and sky in indoor settings, work thanks to the combination of three fundamental elements: high-tech LED technology, optical systems and nano-particles. CoeLux®, with its hyper-realistic technology, contributes towards the success of this ambitious, cutting-edge project.
